Fire Department

Fire Chief Michael Glotzl

From the Chief:

Welcome to the City of Gassville Fire Department's web site page. We're glad you have shown interest in our department. We strive to be a professional, highly trained, humble group of public servants that serve our citizens and visitors alike. The department boasts a proud ISO rating of Class 2, which means very serious efforts have been made to reduce known risks to our community and resulting in affordable insurance rates for our homeowners and businesses.

My name is Michael Glotzl, and I am the career fire chief of the department. I have been at the helm here for six years and am a veteran of the fire service for over four decades. The fire department is comprised of a 22 member staff of interior and support firefighters with the following breakdown: 1 Career, 4 Part-Time, and 20 Paid on Call members of whom 18 are men and 3 women. Our department responds to nearly 350 emergencies annually, and our apparatus response model consists of a Squad Company, 2 Engines, a Tanker, Brush Truck, Rescue, and Command vehicle. Our area of coverage consists of the 3 square miles of the city, and we respond to assist our neighbors in the City of Cotter, Cotter Gassville Rural and Midway Fire Districts with automatic-aid agreements.

The role of the fire service in the 21st century continues to evolve and is one consisting of an "all-hazards approach".  We respond to medical related calls as well as hazardous conditions, rescues, and fires in structures, vehicles, and in the wildland urban interface. It is our aim and goal to be vigilant and ready to respond to and mitigate this spectrum of call volume effectively and safely.

Another aspect of our department has been the creation of a Community Risk Reduction Division. The primary focus of this facet of the department is fire prevention and citizen education. We conduct fire inspections and pre-fire plans on our Commercial properties. We educate adult and juvenile citizens in the areas of fire safety and extinguisher training. We inspect and post unsafe buildings and are consistently looking for ways to ways to lower risk.

We have a proud tradition of being a leader in the fire service here in Baxter County. We will continue this sustained effort into the future, growing and training the next generation of firefighters. Thank you for your time and support.
